On Monday April 17, 2017 - four first place winners will be crowned with these significant wreaths at the Boston Marathon.
Since 1987, the Consul General of Greece in Boston has presented the Boston Athletic Association with olive branch wreaths which have been grown, cut and hand-crafted in Greece. This tradition of crowning the victor, dates back to the dawn of ancient Greek civilization.
In attendance was the Consul General Iphigenia Kanara,The members of the Alpha Omega Council, The Honorable Mayor of Athens Giorgios Kaminis, His Excellency Haris Lalacos, Ambassador of Greece to the United States, Joann Plaminio Boston Athletic Association President, Kathrin V. Switzer, "261 Fearless" and many others.
